Course Description

The 34th Annual Conference will bring together an internationally renowned faculty to present the latest developments in every phase of IVF and embryo management and addresses the needs of practicing scientists, gynecologists, reproductive endocrinologists, residents, and fellows who wish to review the specialty and update their knowledge in this rapidly changing and expanding field.

Particular attention will be devoted this year to the rapidly developing trend toward deferred embryo transfer, stimulation strategies and the role of mild ovarian stimulation for the poor responder, the role of medroxyprogesterone acetate as an alternative to a GNRH antagonist, optimization of embryo culture, the roles of embryo energy supplies and Co-Q10 and newer approaches in improving mitochondrial function in aging women, the role of the corpus luteum in preventing hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, difficult cases with ICSI, the critical importance of single embryo transfer in maximizing perinatal outcomes, genetic evaluation of the infertile couple and early pregnancy, management of mosaic embryos, awakening of the ovaries with platelet rich plasma and beyond, non-invasive preimplantation testing as a more reliable option than embryo biopsy, practical aspects of transfer technique, and management of recurrent implantation failure.

A laboratory mini symposium directed by Jason Swain, PhD, HCLD, will cover modern CRYO-storage technology and safety, updates on vitrification and warming for the busy IVF lab, factors that may influence accuracy of PGTA in both the embryology and genetics laboratory, a review of electronic witnessing for IVF as well as a critical assessment of the potential of artificial intelligence in the IVF lab.

Highlighted Topics:

  • Dr. Emre Seli, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Yale University, will describe developing techniques (PRP and beyond) to awaken oocytes in women with ovarian failure.
  • Catherine Racowsky, PhD, Professor Emerita of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Harvard Medical School, will discuss noninvasive preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy in spent medium as being more reliable than trophectoderm biopsy.

The conference setting will promote extensive contact among speakers and participants with question periods, panels, and many opportunities for informal interaction. Ample time for breaks and refreshments, and opportunity  to interact with exhibitors will also be provided.

In addition, a mobile app will be utilized to access the material being presented, and electronic polling through the mobile app will be used to promote interaction with the speakers.

Target Audience

The target audience for this conference includes physicians, fellows, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, embryologists and other allied health professionals in the field of IVF.

Objectives

Upon conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Describe standard, successful methods of each aspect of the clinical practice of assisted reproductive technology and in particular the very significant advantages of deferred embryo transfer, made possible through embryo vitrification; alternatives to full stimulation; prevention of OHSS; the role of health and lifestyle issues in the male and female; time-lapse monitoring of embryos; aging of the oocyte; management of mosaicism with comprehensive chromosome screening; optimal preparation for deferred embryo transfer; and critical aspects of embryo transfer technique.
  • Discuss aspects of embryo culture and embryo manipulation and management to achieve optimal results with IVF.
  • Identify options for fertility preservation for women with cancer, and management of recurrent implantation failure.
